I couldn’t wait to eat!

After we ate lunch, we drove down to the event. I competed in field events including putting, long drive, and mini-golf. There I received my competitor necklace, 4 discs, a hat, a new Disc Golf bag, and T-shirts! The best part? I got to stamp my own disc at the Dynamic Discs warehouse!

Afterward, I did a practice round at Soden Grove. We celebrated Tuesday by eating lots of tacos.

The last thing I did was go to the player’s meeting. I did a practice round at Hammond Park to prepare. Right after, MJ and I met up at the hotel to play in the pool! I had fun.

Afterward, we ate Freddy’s together. Followed by round 1! I finished round 1 in 4th place. I was happy with that. After the round, MJ and I went to a disc design contest where we colored discs. I really liked that!

That evening, my dad took me to the Family Fun Center where we rode go-karts and played Putt-Putt.

Day 4 – Thursday, July 8, 2021

For Round 2, I played two rounds at Hammond Park. One of my discs barely stayed in bounds! I ended the round in 4th place. Only 2 more rounds to go!

Later, we went to the Emporia Zoo. I did a scavenger hunt and got a disc with a picture of a peacock on it. I played a mini disc golf round at Bourbon Cowboy with MJ and Hannah. I played in the pool afterward.

Day 5 – Friday, July 9, 2021

I did pretty well in the 3rd round. I really had fun watching my Throw Pink teammate, Lauren, play her round at Jones West.

Afterward, I stepped into the pool to cool off. The water felt great! Then, I went to the carnival.

In the evening, there was a Block Party. At the Block Party, I gave somebody their disc that I found, which made me happy. I played a few games too. I jumped or ducked under the log to avoid getting eaten by an alligator, I threw axes (fake ones), and played throw the basketball into the hoop with Lauren. I also tried to climb a rock wall. I made it about halfway before I decided to jump off backward. I better stick to disc golf.

I also got the chance to talk to some professional disc golfers, including World Champion Eric McCabe.

Day 6 – Saturday, July 10, 2021

On the final day, I played at Soden’s Grove again. We had a playoff for fourth place and I won it! I made it into the top four, and got to play at the Emporia Country Club with Poppy, MJ, and Hannah… yay!

The first hole was tough for me and I ended up with a 10. However, on the rest of the holes, I was able to keep up with them.

Later on, they made the announcements. I won the field events and I got a glass fourth place plaque. Doug Bjerkaas was the announcer. I felt like a pro player when Mr. Bjerkass announced my name!

https://throwpink.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/217410993_511955166523520_7347934684305268710_n.mp4

After the ceremony was over, we went back to the hotel to pack. Then ate dinner with the boys. One of them was an eight-year-old champion who also is from Minnesota.

Afterward, I went to the Dynamic Discs shop to use my money from winning the three field events. I got my mom a polo to match the one I was wearing, which I had got from the player’s pack. I also got her another shirt. When leaving the store, I was given a custom-dyed Maverick from Kustom Staxx Disc, a supporter of disc golf kids! Throw Pink is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that helps women live a healthier lifestyle through disc golf. Disc golf turned my life around, and through Throw Pink, I've been able to help other women find that same hope.

The first tournament I ran was the Women's Global Event (WGE). Taking part in a worldwide event taught me so many lessons on how to plan a successful disc golf event. Especially how to host a successful disc golf tournament geared towards women.

Looking back at that first tournament, I wish I had implemented a few icebreakers or side games. There were about 20 women at the WGE, so it was an intimate disc golf experience. I wish a tournament director would have told me some of the advice I'm about to share with you.

Here are my top 8 tips for planning your own successful disc golf tournament:

1. Customize the Player Packs

When I was planning the WGE, I was obsessed with creating the perfect player pack for each person. So first, I looked at each player's PDGA rankings and where they registered. Then, I selected the best guess weights for the disc in their player's pack.

How did I do that? By looking at their PDGA history, I could determine whether the person was a new player or not. Generally, beginner disc golfers throw a lightweight disc. More seasoned players tend to throw heavier discs. It may take longer to make player packs this way, but it's well worth it in the end.

2. Carefully Plan Player Cards

If you've ever planned a seating list for a wedding, you know that Uncle Bill should NOT be placed next to Carrol. The same idea applies to creating cards. I use the same method described on Tip 1 to build out the cards.

I recommend putting new disc golfers on the same card as experienced ones. That way, the experienced disc golfers can help explain rules in case the need arises. Plus, they may be able to give a few pointers to the beginners! (Note - this tip is for events aimed at bringing new players to the game. If you’re running a PDGA sanctioned competition put players on the card with the other people in the division they signed up for at registration)

3. Don't Play in Your Own Tournament

Planning and running a disc golf tournament is a lot of work. It takes time to iron out the details and run the event. That's why it's not recommended that you don’t play in your own tournament unless you have a strong team of knowledgeable volunteers to hold everything together while you're out on the course.

You never know what may happen on the day of your disc golf tournament. So, you need to be available in case a problem arises. Plus, that frees you up for tip #4!

4. Become a Social Media Maven

We live in the age of technology and social media. It's all about those likes! So when you have free time during the tournament, walk around and snap a few pictures of the players and volunteers. All you need is a phone!

If you want to get really fancy, you can even ask the players to take pictures themselves. You can create a Google Drive Folder for everyone to upload photos to, and at the end, the best picture wins a prize! This helps to motivate people and get everyone involved!

Another idea is to create a hashtag for your event. When players post pictures to social media, they can use that hashtag to let everyone know about the event they were at last weekend!

5. CTP's - Because Who Doesn't Love More Ways to Win?

CTP means closest to the pin. How it works is you pick a hole, and whoever's disc lands closest to the basket wins CTP. Then, you place a flag on the CTP hole, so when each card plays it, they can move the flag to their disc if it is closer to the pin than the last.

It's a good idea to reserve CTP's for different divisions. This way, everyone has a chance to win a prize. It also levels the field because each division only competes against other players in their division.

During the WGE, I had 5 CTPs per round and 10 CTPs for the whole tournament.

6. Consider Side Games

A disc golf tournament is super fun, but a tournament with side games? Now that's a party. There are lots of side games that you can include in your event. Throw Pink actually created a fun game that is specific to Throw Pink events! Register your event with Throw Pink and ask us about it!

A classic side game you can include is the Ring of Fire. Hope Brown, PDGA # 56121, introduced me to this one. Everyone makes a circle around a basket (portable is usually best), takes a certain number of steps back, and then everyone putts simultaneously. The ones that make it into the basket retrieve their discs and take more steps back. Then they putt again. The cycle is continued until one player is left standing. This player receives a prize.

7. Remember to Make It Fun

Just because a disc golf tournament is competitive doesn't mean it can't also be fun. Disc golf is a great way to bring the community together! I love including ice breakers at my disc golf fundraisers.

Disc golfers from out of town will come to play and some beginner disc golfers too! It might seem silly, but asking something as easy as "What's your favorite disc and why?" or "What's your favorite course" before starting the tournament can help everyone!

Icebreakers can help ease everyone in and make communicating less stressful. Chances are, someone else may also have the same favorite!

8. Get Creative

Creativity is the baseline to every good event. No one wants to create the most boring tournament ever. Tournament directors want to be remembered for the originality of their events. Making your disc golf fundraiser imaginative and clever can be free!

Have you ever heard of the game Playing for Dots? Another game from Hope B! Anytime a player hits the basket but doesn't make it in, they get a "dot." The dot is typically just a mark on the scorecard. An individual with the highest dots wins a prize.

The same principle can be done with a tree - it's called "Barkie." Hit a tree, get a point. Then, at the end of the round, the points are subtracted from the player's score. That's what we call a little tree love!

There are loads of other ways to get creative and help your event stand out from the rest. For example, you can incorporate costumes, disc golf poker, and so many other creative ideas.

The biggest thing is always remembering to have fun and not spending time focusing on the little things you can't control.

Whether you’ve planned hundreds of disc golf tournaments or none, Throw Pink is a fun way to plan an event. To plan a Throw Pink event, you simply need to pick a charity to donate to! Then you can fill out the registration form.

Even if you don’t have all the details sorted, you can fill out the form. Becoming a part of their event network means you’ll get loads of marketing help and make a difference for the nonprofit you choose! Plus, you’ll get access to even more tournament tips! Let Throw Pink make your tournament the best it can be.

 An Interview with Bob Kulchuk

In order to get one of Bob's minis on Facebook, you first donate $100 to one of the three charities. Then, you comment BIN on the minis post and PM a copy of your donation receipt to Bob!You can also go online to Disc Golf 978 to purchase one of the minis. When you purchase the mini, you get the choice to donate that $100 to Throw Pink, EDGE, or UPlay. 100% of your money goes to the charity of your choice. This fundraiser really is a win, win, win. Bob gets to get some minis out of his garage, the charities get some much-needed donations, and you get a tax deduction + a cool mini! Now, let's get into the interview with the amazing Bob Kulchuk.

1. How did you get into disc golf?
A: I played Ultimate Disc in intramurals in college and then competitively after college for about 20 years. A group of us started messing around playing disc golf with lids at first and then we got hooked. I didn't start playing disc golf until 2012 when I was 37. I wish I had started much, much earlier.
2. When did you start making minis?
A: Last year at the start of Covid. I gave away the first one on April 19th, 2021. I started making them because the stress levels at my job during the early parts of Covid were very high and I wanted to de-stress when I got home. Making the minis was like therapy. I posted some pics on Facebook and got some positive feedback.
3. What led you to start the Charity Minis Project?
A: Well, I knew I couldn't just keep making minis and keep stockpiling them and I didn't really want to start a side business with them, so I needed a way to give them away. I work for a non-profit. Actually, I have been working for non-profits for most of my career. As a finance professional, I understand the fiscal demands on these organizations. Many of them act as social safety nets for the least fortunate among us. So, I figured why not offer to give them away to people who make donations to their favorite charities. I really had no idea if it would work or if people would donate or what…it was all an experiment. To some degree it still is I suppose.
4. How much have you raised?
A: In 2020, I gave away 72 minis and raised $6800 for charities. In 2020, I left the charity up to the donor. That got people invested in the project because they directed the donation, but then at the end of the year, that $6800 was spread across something like 35 different charities. So, for 2021, I wanted to target the donations a bit more so that the money raised would be a more significant amount towards each charity's budget. That is the reason I limited it to three organizations…but, I did want to focus on disc golf related charities. My goal for this calendar year was 100 minis at $100 each to raise $10,000 for charity. So far in 2021, I have given away 60 minis and raised $6,065 so I'm a bit over halfway to that goal.
5. What are your hopes for the future of disc golf?
A: In an ideal world, I'd love to see disc golf expand into schools and be a sports or activity option for kids in the same way that ultimate or golf or hockey or basketball are now. Many colleges offer disc golf club options and many high schools are taking an interest in interschool competitive teams. It is one of the cheapest sports to get into and it is great for kids and other groups who might otherwise not want to get into competitive sports.
6. What led you to choose EDGE, UPlay, and Throw Pink as your charities?
A: All of the leaders of each of those organizations that I have met have incredible enthusiasm and are very positive role models. They are each doing great things for the sport of disc golf and I wanted to support their efforts.
7. Do you see an end to your Charity Minis Project?
A: Hmmm. I honestly don't know. I'll likely keep making them as long as it is enjoyable to do so and there is interest from people willing to donate to get one of them.
8. What can we do to help with your efforts?
A: Sharing on social media can certainly bring awareness to this specific project, but overall, I'd say keep doing the great work you are doing. I just hope that whatever money gets raised can aid in fulfilling your mission.
9. What's one parting message for all the disc golfers in the world?
A: Don't sit on the sidelines. Disc golf has benefited me a ton and being a part of this community has been amazing. Find a way to give back. Even if it is as simple as bringing a bag with you during your round to pick up trash.

I woke around 3 am.

Still half asleep, I noticed my heart racing, pounding, actually. I saw my body shaking uncontrollably, as I've never experienced before. My muscles tightened. I began trying to gasp for air and take deep breaths as tears ran down my face, but nothing helped.

I wanted to scream out for my parents but not being physically able to speak. As I sat crying on my bed, I tucked my knees in, curled into a ball, and began to rock back and forth. I remember at that moment feeling helpless, confused, afraid, and alone.

It felt as if I was sucked into a dark cave where no one could hear me, no one could see me, and no one could help me. What's wrong with me? I felt like I was dying.

This is what it's like living with an Anxiety Disorder.

Defined by Oxford Language, "Anxiety is a nervous disorder characterized by a state of excessive uneasiness and apprehension, typically with compulsive behavior or panic attacks."

According to the Anxiety & Depression Association of America, "Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year." They also stated, "Anxiety disorders affect 25.1% of children between 13 and 18 years old.

My Journey

Hi. My name is Katie, and I have severe anxiety. When I first started having moments like these, I was in elementary school. Moments I would later in life find out were panic attacks.

But before I found out in a medical sense what was going on, I remember feeling so helpless as no one could tell me what I was experiencing, and no one I knew at that age could relate.

We see our parents as these superheroes who can heal our cuts or "boo-boo's" with a simple kiss at such a young age - the people who can protect us from anything and make everything better. As children, we are innocent and pure. It was hard for me to try to understand what I was experiencing and my parents as well. This was just one thing they couldn't protect me from, and like most people who don't suffer from anxiety, it was hard for them even to understand exactly what I was going through.

There were days I would be on my hands and knees, crying uncontrollably, begging my parents to let me stay home from school. Just the thought of walking on the school bus and everyone staring at me began to give me panic attacks.

It was such a foreign feeling to me since, as a child, I was pretty outgoing. As a young child, I love to sing and sing any chance I could get, especially on stage in front of crowds. Then one day, I woke up, and life as I knew it changed with no explanation, no letter, just emotions I didn't know how to control. - Anxiety controlled me.

Sleepovers. Going to the movies. Celebrating birthday parties. Typical things kids like to do with their friends and enjoy. It should be a fun time, right? Simple moments like these were such a struggle for me.

You see, the fundamental frustrating part about an anxiety disorder is that it interferes with daily activities. It can be activities that you absolutely LOVE doing and participating in, but suddenly, your body and mind take over and try to convince you not to do those things. As time went on, my anxiety worsened

As you grow up, there are so many new things to experience, like learning how to ride a bike and social events like prom. However, anxiety will try to take that from you. One day your school friend will call you up and ask if you want to come to their sleepover, and of course, you want to go, but your other "friend" anxiety is sitting next to you telling you, "It's not safe," "Stay at home," "What If..?".

You try to counteract your mindset by telling yourself all the positive reasons why you should go; then, just like that, your heart's racing. The shaking begins. The fear sets in, the tears start to fall, and just like that, you believe your "friend" anxiety is correct, and you decide to stay at home. Instead of creating new memories, sharing laughs with your friends, and experiencing life, you're at home all alone.

Many times, anxiety has left me mentally feeling alone, detached from others, sad for missing out on/turning down opportunities, and low self-esteem. But wait! There's more! You see, panic attacks aren't just mentally draining; they are also physically exhausting.

According to The Mental Health Foundation, "Poor physical health can lead to an increased risk of developing mental health problems. Similarly, poor mental health can have a negative impact on physical health, leading to an increased risk of some conditions."

Physically, during a panic attack, my heart races, my muscles tighten to where it hurts, my body shakes, my eyes swell due to the hysterical crying, trouble breathing, and my skin turns pale white.

Remember when I said there's more?

When you suffer from anxiety attacks, it's not just the actual attacks that affect you but also the post effects. Physically after I have a panic attack, I feel nauseous, light-headed, depressed, have a tough time wanting to eat, and it makes me feel like I just ran 10 miles within an hour. It's EXHAUSTING! It's a cycle that just kept spinning until I decided enough is enough!

For anyone facing anxiety, you are not alone. Never be afraid to reach out to those around you. You are not broken, you just need some help.

-Chris Dickerson, PDGA #62467

My parents and I sought help from a doctor to better understand what I was going through, why, and techniques to help prevent and control the anxiety attacks when they evolve.

After seeing numerous doctors for many years, I found specific steps that helped me learn to control myself better when I have a panic attack. I also saw the results of having them less frequently. With a mixture of a healthier diet, better sleep schedule, exercise, therapy, medication, and daily meditation, I have enjoyed life more with less anxiety. I've found activities that are personally therapeutic for myself, such as my love for riding horses, running, and disc golf.

Disc Golf: A "Game Changer"

Disc Golf has been a game-changer in helping me control my anxiety. There are many advantages to disc golf, like exercise, but the most significant gift it has given me is the help with my "mental game." Taking those concepts I apply on the course and using them to my overall life has helped tremendously.

I started playing disc golf about three years ago when I was introduced to the sport by my boyfriend, Travis Hayes. Travis has been playing since college. He began teaching me how to play the sport, and I instantly fell in love with it.

I've always been a very active person and have always loved playing sports, so it was a perfect fit! It was nice to find a sport I could enjoy as I get older, and it has taught me some very beneficial mental techniques to help control my anxiety.

When playing tournaments, I learned to create a warm-up routine before every round. When you develop a routine, it helps you control your focus, and when you have focus, it can help your mind not "race" and be all over the place. Thus, helping you control any anxiety you may be feeling.

My routine consists of stretching, practicing putting, and throwing to gain some confidence. I also do a few breathing techniques, which help me control my breath, visualize my throws, and tell myself, "you've got this." As silly as it can sound, encouraging yourself can make a massive difference in training your brain to have confidence and helping your body stay calm.

It is comforting to know you are not alone. I was highly inspired when pro disc golfer Chris Dickerson spoke up about his struggle with anxiety. It just goes to show you that even those in the "spotlight" can still relate to the struggles you may face personally.

It's inspiring to see how he acknowledges that he struggles with this and watches his perseverance to still walk out on that course and play with his whole heart. On one of Chris' Instagram posts, he openly spoke about his struggle. He stated, "For anyone facing anxiety, you are not alone. Never be afraid to reach out to those around you. You are not broken, you just need some help", and I couldn't agree more.

Since starting to play disc golf, I have found myself to be more outgoing again with the help of new friends, friendships that will last a lifetime. The disc golf community comprises people from "all walks of life" and is one of the most supportive communities I've been a part of in my life. If you are interested in learning more about disc golf, I suggest checking out Throw Pink's blog and social media to learn more!

Steps You Can Take

Each person's anxiety can vary, which can also mean how coping and preventing anxiety attacks can vary from person to person. Below is a list of ways to help manage anxiety.

Some of the management options for anxiety disorders include:

learning about anxiety

mindfulness

relaxation techniques

correct breathing techniques

cognitive therapy

behavior therapy

counseling

dietary adjustments

exercise

learning to be assertive

building self-esteem

structured problem solving

medication

support groups

mediation

I highly encourage anyone facing these struggles to seek help and find a solution to live their best life! If you are dealing with or know someone with anxiety and are seeking help, make sure to check out the Anxiety & Depression Association of America (adaa.org) to find the right support for you! Our mental health is just as important as our physical health and deserves just as much attention. Most importantly, anxiety does not define you!

Never trust your fears, they don't know your strength.

-Athena Singh

TL;DR: In case you have an attention disorder and cannot finish the whole story. I am here today; I suffer from mental illness, and I am a disc golfer. Disc golf therapy ultimately saved my life.

My daughter asked me just yesterday, “Mom, how do you know so much useless information?” My response was, “Because I’m bipolar.” I did not say sick, crazy, or just because; I said bipolar. For some, this may not seem like a big deal, but it means the world for me. I’ve accepted that my disease is never going away, and it makes me the person I am today. However, I was not always as open about my mental health.

Before I got help, I would hide the deep depression as the flu. I could rarely hide my mania or psychosis, but that didn’t mean I wouldn’t try. But trying to hide it was exhausting.

I tried so hard to fit into society and be what was considered “normal.” I didn’t want to be thought of as someone who belongs in an asylum. I truly believed that society would never label me as “normal” if they knew what was going on in my mind.

Society creates these stigmas for people with mental disorders such as crazy or weak-minded. Those stigmas also carried over into the way I viewed my mental health, called self-stigma. I was ashamed, embarrassed, and struggled with life in general for years in silence.

Remember the saying ‘Fake it ’til you make it?’ Yea, that was me. These stigmas resulted in me trying to mimic the emotions of others every day. I wanted to fit in. I wanted to feel like I was like everyone else too.

After some time, it became harder and harder to figure out if I was okay. I would wonder if I was about to be manic or about to face the black dog (aka depression). I didn’t need to feign emotions too.

What It’s Like to be Bipolar

Being bipolar may not be what you think it is. It’s not simple mood swings, it can’t be cured, and we’re not crazy.

When manic, I am reckless, sexy, and entertaining. I am a child with no rules. I do what makes me feel good. I don’t think about other people’s emotions. I lash out at those who try to help. The first signs of an oncoming manic episode for me are racing thoughts and rapid speech.

When I’m full-blown manic, I will ramble my theories and musings and draw my thoughts on paper. I have visions and see things that are not real. I refuse to sleep because I do not need sleep anymore. I am delusional and will recount a story from a book as my own and honestly believe that I’m the storyteller. I am highly compulsive and self-destructive physically. It’s never a happy ending.

The episode concludes with me crying for days, depressed, guilt-ridden, hurt, embarrassed, suicidal, with no way to explain my behavior. Sometimes I feel like it was not me but another person who ruined my reputation. If only I could stop the identity thief who used my body and mind.

I would swear to give everything I have to redeem my soul as I cry in bed, begging to be “normal.”

It’s Never Too Late to Get Help

Finally, I had had enough of the roller-coaster I was on, which changed my life for the better. Getting help from a professional and asking for help from friends were two of the hardest things I have ever had to do.

I was admitting something was wrong with me, and it was my brain. How terrifying is that? My brain does not produce the correct chemistry for me to be “normal” without medication.

The doctors over the years have added labels to my diagnoses, such as bipolar disorder (BP1), general anxiety disorder (GAD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and manic depression.

With therapy, I learned to control many aspects of my thought process and develop new coping mechanisms. My doctor prescribed me proper medication to help me finally focus, slow down, and be optimistic again without the fear of extremes. Medication, good doctors, and therapy saved me. But want to know something crazy?

Occasionally, I miss my delusional mind. Yes, I miss the sensations and delusions. I would feel invincible. I had no fears or worries, no sadness in my world. During a manic episode, I had unlimited energy. I was a lunatic at night. I would become obsessed with the moon and night sky. It would draw me out of my house, and I would sit out all night under the stars.

I gave up the roller coaster to be a better mother and friend to those around me and be an example to my children and friends. I accepted my condition in hopes of the light at the end of the tunnel.

I gave it up to save my life. So, what does that all have to do with disc golf?

Finding Disc Golf

One day, my doctor suggested I find an outdoor activity to clear my mind and help with the various triggers to my condition. “Have you ever played golf?” she asked. I immediately told her about my costly habit of traditional golf when I was younger. I loved golf but did not have the money to pick it back up again. That’s when she mentioned Frisbee golf.

With a little bit of research, I found a whole disc golf community. It was perfect and similar to golf rules. It became a daily habit for me. It was inexpensive and a walk in the park, literally. Soon I found it was indeed the best therapy that I could have given myself.

I picked it up and played disc golf tournaments regularly for the entirety of 2017. I cannot think of a weekend I was not playing in a tournament or league. Like in traditional golf, leagues brought together all skill levels and introduced me to so many new people. For example, it introduced me to our local putting league. I fell in love with the sport and caught on quickly because of its similarities to traditional golf. I rarely won a tournament or league event during that year, but overall, I had the most fun.

To be honest, I never really cared to win. Sometimes it was more about watching other players grow. It was fascinating. The following year, I went to the United States Disc Golf tournament (USDGC) to spectate and support my boyfriend, who was playing.

As I wandered around, I remember meeting one of the friendliest disc golfers. She was passionate about promoting the sport for women and raising money for women’s initiatives. She gave me a Throw Pink flyer for a clinic, and it made me feel welcome.

Later, I ran into her again, and she remembered me. She asked if I was going to make it to the clinic. From that moment, I knew there was a place for me. I could now help in the community that had helped me.

That disc golfer was Sara Nicholson. She started my journey in charitable causes and, unbeknownst to me at the time, was one of the founders of Throw Pink. It had its ups and downs, but I had mine. What happened is something I did not expect from this sport – a support group, a community, a sport that accepted the loser into the winning moments.

I walked away victorious my first year playing the sport. I found my therapy, my tribe. I was rarely the winner on paper, but the winners were all around and shared each moment of their glory. Disc golf saved my sanity and my life.

My Quirky New Normal

I regularly share the stories behind these labels with others during rounds of golf, if asked or the subject comes up. I am no longer ashamed and believe my stories can help someone else who is struggling themselves.

Life happened, and my brain stopped making certain chemicals and could not deal with trauma and stress. In combination, I am a physiological mess and a real pain in the ass to treat. Treating bipolar disorder takes priority for me. On occasion, my doctor will give me something to help with the other mental illnesses, but with mania and depression under control, I can enjoy my quirky new normal.

Today, I am a proud Innova Ambassador and Throw Pink team member. I strive daily to give back to the disc golf community what it has given me, a new lease on life. Thank you to everyone who has been with me for this journey. If you ever are on the course and want to talk about mental health, please join me for a round and discussion. I am not immune to mania, anxiety, depression, or even suicidal thoughts, it is a part of me, and we should all keep the dialog open and talk to each other. By promoting open dialogue, we can fight the stigmas associated with mental health.

TL;DR – My husband was my abuser. Disc golf helped me build coping skills for PTSD. Read the full story below!

I had an anxiety attack the other night. Not a normal one… whatever normal is, but the crippling kind. The kind that makes you forget how to breathe, your body instantly heats up, and then you experience heart palpitations. It ended in tears and exhaustion.

What led me there? I was stressed. I was having a terrible brew of emotions and thoughts like, “Your emotions aren’t allowed. You must stop. Emotions are weak,” which cycled back into other memories. The times that got me to where I am.

Back then, if I were to defend myself, it would always lead to a fight, an argument. Then me, cowering and taking all the blame. Even now, loud noises, like something falling in the kitchen or voices raised at an event, can sometimes get misconstrued in my mind as something being thrown against a wall or a voice yelling in anger.

These noises cause a certain gaslighting of myself – my emotions are not valid and I’m being dramatic (someone actually told me that once).

You see, living with PTSD is hard.

The DSM-5 defines Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, as Persistent, distorted cognitions about the cause or consequences of the traumatic event(s) that lead the individual to blame himself/herself or others. Persistent negative emotional state (e.g., fear, horror, anger, guilt, or shame). Markedly diminished interest or participation in significant activities. Diagnosis occurs when you meet the criteria:

Criterion A – Stressor – exposure to death, threatened death, actual/threatened serious injury, actual/threatened sexual violence via direct exposure, witnessing the trauma, learning that a relative/close friend was exposed to the trauma, or indirect exposure to aversive details (i.e., first responders, medics)

Criterion B – Intrusion Symptoms (one required) – unwanted upsetting memories, nightmares, flashbacks, emotional distress after exposure to traumatic reminders (“triggers”), physical reactivity to traumatic reminders (“triggers”)

Criterion C – Avoidance (one required) – avoidance of trauma-related stimuli following the trauma, in the following ways: (1) trauma related thoughts or feelings (2) trauma related external reminders.

Criterion D – Negative Alterations in Cognitions and Mood (two required) – Negative thoughts or feelings that began or worsened after the trauma, in the following ways:

Inability to recall key features of trauma.

Overly negative thoughts and assumptions about oneself or the world

Exaggerated blame or self or other for causing the trauma.

Negative affect

Decreased interest in activities.

Feeling isolated

Difficulty experiencing positive affect.

Criterion E – Alterations in arousal or reactivity – trauma related arousal and reactivity that began or worsened after the trauma, in the following ways:

Irritability or aggression

Risky or destructive behavior

Hypervigilance

Heightened startle reaction

Difficulty concentrating

Difficulty sleeping

Criterion F – Duration (required) – symptoms last for more than 1 month.

Criterion G – Functional Significance (required) – symptoms create distress or functional impairment (i.e., social, occupational)

Criterion H – Exclusion (required) – symptoms are not due to medication, substance use, or other illness.

Two specifications

Dissociative Specification – In addition to meeting diagnosis criteria, an individual experiences high levels of either of the following in reaction to trauma-related stimuli:

Depersonalization – Experience of being outside observer of or detached from oneself (feeling as if one were in a dream or feeling as if “this is not happening to me”)

Derealization – Experience of unreality, distance, or distortion (thinking “things are not real”)

Delayed Specification – Full diagnostic criteria are not met until at least six (6) months after the trauma or traumas, although onset of symptoms may occur immediately.

So, there you have it.
Marriage counseling. I met my now ex-husband in August of 2011. I had just turned 21. We married in November of 2015. We separated on May 31, 2020.

Throughout the relationship, my “health” was always a concern. I needed to lose weight, be more active, fit into a criterion that he wanted.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" loading="lazy" src="https://throwpink.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Picture1.jpg" alt="Me at the lowest part of my marriage. Approximately 265 lbs.

When he started working a new job in the fall of 2019, the only thing that really changed was he was able to interact with more people, mostly women. Leading him to question the viability of our relationship, leading to cracks.

The people who he chose to be around inside and outside of work wrecked my mental health. I knew I was not good enough anymore. It made me wonder… was I ever good enough?

What did not change in the relationship was me – I did not do what he wanted. I did not lose weight… I tried, but it just did not work. I’d get discouraged and give up.

Every month was a fight about how I looked. And I took all the blame. I always accepted that our troubles were my fault. The easiest way to fix everything would be to change. If I really loved him, I would change to save us.

We started marriage counseling in February, and I started going to the gym. Before we started marriage counseling, he gave me a list of criteria to meet. I would have to find the therapist, make the appointment, and the therapist had to have a higher education than him (he holds a Masters in I&O Psych).

He also, by that time, told me he did not know if I had ever really made him happy, among other things. I was a walking wreck. I had entered survival mode and was hanging on by whatever thread I could grasp.

My job suffered. My friendships suffered. I suffered. Everything was messy and depressing.

When we entered to see our counselor, we were each given time to be individually evaluated. When asked about past traumas, the question was asked – “Have you had any sexual trauma?” I shut down. Depersonalization happened.

I could see myself watching the trauma. I went silent. I tried to answer the therapist, but my thousand-yard stare and lack of verbalization were enough. As therapy continued, I was referred to a separate therapist for private sessions. But, as my marriage continued to dissolve, every symptom got exponentially worse.

It was not that I was being sexually assaulted in my marriage, but the feeling of “If I’d have done this, then this wouldn’t have happened,” carried over from one experience to the other.

Bad things were happening to me because I did (or did not) do something. I was spiraling. I got reckless, turning to alcohol to sleep without nightmares. To cope with watching my marriage collapse. To try to be a normal person and numb the pain.

I withdrew from all social activities. I withdrew into myself. I felt alone…no, I was alone. My spouse was being wishy-washy with his decision to stay or go and the uncertainty was crippling. As I continued with my therapist, we began EMDR therapy.

EMDR changed my life. EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It’s not what you think of when you imagine therapy. It’s not talking on a couch or medication.

EMDR uses your own rapid rhythmic eye movements to dampen the power of emotionally charged memories from traumatic events. Basically, she would have me recall a moment that was traumatic while moving her fingers back and forth in front of my face and asking me to follow the motions with my eyes.

As I was recalling the moment, which includes all the emotions and body sensations that occur with it, she would guide me to shift my thoughts to more pleasant ones as she was moving her fingers.

I was asked to rate my level of distress before, during, and after so that we could track if memories were becoming less disturbing. So, for 90 minutes each week, in the middle of a pandemic (COVID started at the same time my marriage was failing), I would sit with my therapist and relive the trauma.

Memories would flash before my eyes of my abuser going, “If you don’t do what I tell you, I’ll tell people this,” and “I’ll do this if you refuse to do what I tell you.” Each session, analyzing the situation, recalling the feelings, and recalling the memories. I’d always want to take a scalding hot shower to wash away the dirty feeling of the trauma after.

According to the EMDR Institute, Inc., the hypothesis is that EMDR facilitates the accessing of the traumatic memory network so that information processing is enhanced with new associations being forged between the traumatic memory and more adaptive memories.

In layman’s terms, EMDR shows that the mind can heal from psychological trauma much like your body tries to close an open wound. If the open wound is continually irritated, it will fester and cause pain – once you remove the irritation, healing occurs. In this case, the open wound is an emotional wound, and once the festering is relieved, healing can occur.

There are 8 Stages of EMDR therapy:

History & Treatment Planning

Preparation

Assessment

Desensitization

Installation

Body Scan

Closure

Reevaluation

Even with the steps, the therapy is not considered complete until all the memories have been brought to attention, present situations addressed, and skills for the future discussed. That’s where disc golf comes in.

My marriage dissolved in May of 2020. Now, I am with an amazing man named Cooper.

I met Cooper in July and gave him full honesty about my marriage and my mental health. By mid-August, he had me playing disc golf.

Cooper and me playing disc golf

Movement is a top priority to me because of the skills I need for after EMDR. I had been going to the gym since February and was down 90 lbs. by July. Adding disc golf in was a surprise.

I did not expect to love it so much, I was over 83 strokes on a course that was a par 54 the first time. It was a challenge.

In the weeks that followed, I noticed that when playing, I was more aware of my emotions and how I was breathing. I could cope with more body and sensory sensations. I could self-soothe when my game was off or when a disc did not do what I wanted.

As I was golfing, I did not shut down when my emotions were too much. I worked through them. While talking with my therapist, she said that those were the skills I needed to build to keep going after EMDR because I would not need EMDR forever. I needed coping skills forever.

Disc golf gave me that. Sure, days aren’t perfect, and my games aren’t perfect, but nothing ever is. Now, there are days where I hear a loud noise or voice on the course and instead of cowering, I can acknowledge that something disturbed me. I can self-soothe and analyze what the disturbance was.

Disc golf has given me a place to belong and a group of women who are so supportive. I’ve met the most amazing people through disc golf. I’d only been playing for 2 months when I participated in Throw Pink’s Clinic at Winthrop the day after the USDGC.

It has let me introduce social interaction at my own pace and now I’ve got friends in my local club. It gets me outdoors and active.

Me (orange shirt) at ladies league

There is a new challenge with each stroke, which keeps me sharp. It reminds me that there’s hope. For everyone with PTSD, there’s treatment. There’s a way to learn to live a full life again.
Growing up, a younger Sara Nicholson would spend hours fighting to beat the high score on whatever game her family was playing that week. But when she would wake up the next morning, she’d find that her mom had played through the night to beat her score.

It was in this environment that Nicholson’s love of competition was born.

Throw Pink, the organization Nicholson co-founded and still runs, pushes to get as many women as possible playing disc golf. While growing the sport is the primary goal, Throw Pink is also focused on helping players fundraise for female-focused charities. Since its inception in 2013, the organization has raised over $52,000 and brought out more than1,700 participants.

Nicholson is no stranger to this kind of work and the drive to give. Before she began a career in disc golf – she was the PDGA memberships manager from 2011-2015 before moving on to her position as the sponsorships and special initiatives coordinator at Innova Discs – she always took any opportunity to help others. This meant majoring in psychology, joining AmeriCorps after college, and helping raise money for charities.

“I wanted to help people and I wanted to make a difference,” Nicholson said. After she lost her mom when she was in her 20s, however, she temporarily abandoned her pursuit of this passion. It was disc golf that would later reignite that drive.

“I think disc golf is a really great outlet, mentally and physically,” she said. “The healing properties that can come into disc golf – it saves a lot of people. You can forget the day, forget everything else – you can just focus on that throw. Get out of your head and think about something else.”

Nicholson began playing at an employee course in Yellowstone National Park, where she worked for three years. She first noticed that she was hooked on disc golf when she would choose to play over going on hiking trips.

“Something clicked, and all I wanted to do was play disc golf,” she says. “I’d spend half of my paycheck on it.”

Over the next decade she would go on to help run more than 100 tournaments, many of them fundraisers. Her passion lies with the mission of Throw Pink: helping others. And she believes she shares this desire with many other women.

“Women will come out and do something if they are able to justify it by knowing it makes a difference,” Nicholson said. “Throw Pink gives them the chance to make a difference while they’re learning something new in a safe place. You come to these events and everyone’s throwing the same as you. You kind of get the bug – you get hooked.”

Nicholson also spends much of her energy fighting to improve the sport for women through the organizations she has worked for over the years, with varying levels of success.

“When your demographic only makes up roughly eight percent of the people companies are representing and marketing to, it’s hard sometimes for your voice to be heard,” Nicholson said. “The focus is very much still on the men – with all sports, really. I think it’s true with every woman working in the sports industry, the challenge of any woman in charge trying to have their voice heard.”

Nicholson said she takes strength in reading about the progression of other sports for women, such as the Ladies Professional Golf Association. She said that, although there are few that remember the pioneers of ladies’ traditional golf, those leaders were essential to growing that sport for women. The same, she said, applies to the ladies putting in effort to grow disc golf today.

“You have to be OK dedicating your life to it without anyone maybe ever knowing who you are,” she said. She added that the key to growing disc golf for women is, simply, “perseverance.”

“It just takes a bunch of people just constantly plugging away and not giving up,” Nicholson said. “The league I started in Rock Hill is casual and free. I’ve had 16 women in attendance, averaging five to eight. You say those numbers to other disc golf clubs, and they ask: ‘Why even bother?’

“Of the 40 people I might talk to about league, only one might show up,” she continued. “You have to celebrate all of the little successes. You can’t give up and you have to try different ways to get women involved.”

Sometimes doubles events work, Nicholson said, because people want to play with their significant others. Sometimes posting on the Meetup app brings women out. And sometimes simply putting up flyers in a library might be the hook.

Nicholson’s determination to never stop trying seems rooted in her competitive spirit. She is constantly pushing herself to be better, to strive for more, and to never settle for what she has done. For her disc golf efforts, this means never giving up on growing the sport for women and, consequently, making the sport – and the community it encompasses – even better.

We are excited to announce the Inaugural Throw Pink Women’s Disc Golf Championship. The championship represents another chapter in the rich tournament history at Winthrop. The original Women’s National Championship was held at Winthrop in 1999, 2000, and again in 2001 after being renamed the United States Women’s Disc Golf Championship.

The WNC returned to Winthrop in 2020 after pandemic conditions forced the cancellation of the US Women’s Disc Golf Championship scheduled earlier in the year. The 2020 WNC and USDGC turned out to be the only two Majors of the 2020 season. With the US Women’s Disc Golf Championship expected to return in 2021, tournament organizers agreed not to use the term “National” (Champion) to avoid any degree of confusion with the USWDGC Champion in the Open Women Division.

Hey y’all! My name is Sarah Wozniak. I have a B.S in Kinesiology from Anderson University, and I am an American Council on Exercise (ACE) Certified Personal Trainer. I played on the golf team in college. I have been in this field for 5 years and I love helping people on their journey. I have started my own personal training business where I go into client’s homes or online. Also, I teach kids how to play golf while learning life skills with The First Tee of Greater Charlotte. I have played disc golf for 3 years and love learning more each time I go out. I love helping people get stronger every day and find that confidence within themself. The following workouts have been specifically designed for disc golfers. Each week will help you improve your form, game, and endurance by focusing on various body parts. If you’re new to working out, no problem! In each exercise, I’ve come up with a beginner, intermediate, and advanced version. Pick which one fits your fitness level best and slowly work your way up!Perform each of these workouts once a week for 4 weeks. If you’re a beginner, work your way into performing the more intermediate exercises. If you’re intermediate/advanced, focus on upping your weights and gaining flexibility.

Warm-Ups Are Key

Warm-ups are a key factor in playing well and getting the most out of your workout. Warming up before any activity can help lessen your risk of injury and safely increases your body temperature and blood flow. Even better, warming up helps prevent soreness after a hard workout or round! When it’s colder outside, take a little extra time to get warmed up. I recommend 5-10 reps of each warm-up. Warm-ups don’t take long, but they sure do make a difference.

Single Arm Circles – Start with standing straight. Raise both your arms and move them in a circular motion without bending the elbow.

Knee to Elbow – Start by standing straight. Bring your left arm to your right knee until they touch, or almost touch, then return to the starting position. Repeat on the opposite side. Think about tightening your core as the arm and elbow come together.

Windmill – Start by standing straight. Bend over at your waist as you bring your right arm to your left toes until they are touching or almost touching. Return to the upright position and do the same for your left arm. Remember to not lock your knees during this exercise and breath.

Knee to Chest – For this warm-up, you can either stand still or walk with it (lean with it ????). You will start by standing straight and then bring your knee up towards your chest, grabbing your knee with your hands. Squeeze your stomach and glutes for a few seconds and then lower your leg back down. Repeat on the other side.

Glute Stretch – This is another warm-up that you can be stationary with or mobile. You will start by standing. Then bring your leg up to be parallel to the sky, grabbing your legs with your hands. Slowly pull your leg and knee up as far as you can for a deeper stretch. Return to the starting position and repeat on the other side.

Frankenstein – You can either stand still or walk with this warm-up. While standing up, put your arms out in front of you, palm down, so they are parallel with the sky. Kick one leg up at high as you can so it touches your fingers. Remember to breathe out when kicking up and in when lowering your leg. Also, keep your knees slightly bent to avoid locking them.

Lunge w/ Spinal Twist – This warm-up is great for your lower back! To start, get into a lunge with your front knee perpendicular to your ankle and your back knee slightly above the ground bent at a 90-degree angle. Then, lower the hand opposite of your front leg to the inside of your ankle (I.E. – If your right leg is in front, lower your left hand to the ground). Twist to bring your chest close to your knee. Keep your opposite arm in the air as you twist, reaching towards the sky. For added difficulty, turn your head to look up the arm reaching towards the sky. For a deeper stretch, tuck in your hips and push deeper into the lunge.

Torso Rotation – Perform this pre-exercise warm-up for about 15 seconds. Standing up with your knees slightly bent, rotate your upper body left and right.

Watch the video below for a walk-through of these warm-ups. Remember to always warm-up before every round, workout, or strenuous activity. It will help your body stay nimble and you be more successful!

Plank Core Workout

Take it one exercise at a time. If you can’t hold the plank for a minute yet, start with 30-seconds and work your way up through this 4-week workout. You got this!

Plank – Start with your stomach on the ground. Put your elbows under your shoulders and tuck your toes under you to get into a plank position. Hold this for 40 seconds. Remember to breathe and tuck your belly button into your spine.

High Plank – From the plank position, raise yourself higher by putting your hands directly under your shoulders and extending your arms. Hold this position for 40 seconds. Remember to breathe and engage your core.

Plank Push-Up – From the high plank, you’re going to go back down onto your elbows. Then rise back up into a high plank with your hands underneath your shoulders. Repeat this movement for 40 seconds. Remember to keep your back straight.

Side Plank – Turn onto your side with your elbow underneath your shoulder.

Plank Shoulder Taps – Return to the high plank position. Bring your right hand to touch your left shoulder. Repeat with the other hand (except touch the right shoulder). Perform this movement for 40-seconds.

Thread the Needle – Get into the side plank position except put your hand under your shoulder instead to make a high side plank. With your other hand reach into the sky then bring it underneath your body, twisting your torse slightly, then return it to the sky. Repeat for 40 seconds then do the same movement on the other side.

Full Body Workout

Walking Twist Lunge – Perform 8-10 reps on each leg. Start in a standing position. Put your right foot forward and get into a lunge. Keep your front knee perpendicular to your ankle, don’t let it pass your toes. Keep your back knee a few inches above the ground. Sink your hips into the groups and rotate to the right and then the left. Stand back up and repeat.

Side to Side – Perform 20 reps total. Start standing up and then bend the knees, push your hips back, and keep your back straight. Get low and move your right leg to the side and bring your left leg in to meet it. Repeat. 1 rep is a complete right to left movement.

Bicep Curl to Should Press Row with Squat – This is a complex move, so watch the video to see it in action! Perform 5-10 reps. Start by standing up. Squat down as low as you can, remembering to keep your knees above your ankles and back straight. Stand back up while pushing your arms up, keeping your elbows close to your head. Return your arms back to your shoulders, rotate your palms inward so they are looking at your face. With your elbows tucked into your side, lower your hands to your waist and back up using your biceps and raise them back to your shoulders. Lastly, bend over at the hip with your hands dangling down towards your feet with palms facing each other. Drive both elbows up, bringing your hands to your chest. Then lower your hands again. That is 1 rep.

Renegade Row – Perform 6-12 reps on each arm. To start, get into a pushup position. Remember to keep your back flat and not stick your glute into the air. Bring your right arm into the air, driving that elbow up, to bring your hands to your chest. Squeeze your shoulder blades during this movement. Then return to the starting position and do the same with your opposite arm. Keep your core tight during this exercise by pulling your belly button into the spine.

Burpees – In the video, we’ve included three modifications. If you’re advanced or intermediate, perform a burpee with a push-up. If you’re a beginner, modify the push-up by dropping your knees to the ground and then performing a push-up. Start with 3-5 and work your way up to 10. Have a goal that you want to get to. Remember to breathe!

Stability and Balance Workout

Single-Leg Romanian Deadlift – Perform 10 reps per side. Hold onto something if you need help keeping your balance. Start with one leg on the ground and the other in the air, knee at a 90-degree angle. Kick your leg back while reaching your arm forward. Remember to keep your knee slightly bent to avoid locking it. Keep your core tight by pulling your belly button in towards your spine. Do this exercise 10 times on one side, then switch to the other side.

Single-Leg Squat – Perform 10 reps/side. Stand on one leg with the other leg bent at a 90-degree angle. Keep your knees close to each other. Squat down, keep your other leg in the air and return to the starting position. Get down as low as you can. You should feel this in the back of your hip. Remember to inhale going down and exhale going up.

Inchworm – Perform 5-10 reps. Start by standing straight. Bend down at the hip until your hands touch the floor. Walk your body out until you are in a plank position, hold, then walk your hand back towards your toes until you can stand back up again. Try to keep your legs straight when you are coming back up. Return to starting position and then repeat.

Dead Bug – Start with 5 reps/side and move your way up to 10 reps/side. Start with your back on the floor, knees in the air and bent at a 90-degree angle, and arms straight above your shoulders. Lower one leg to a few inches above the ground while also lowering your opposite arm (I.E. – lower your right leg and left arm to the ground). Return to starting position. Alternate from one side to the other. Remember to keep your core tight and breathe.

Clamshell – Perform 10 reps/side. For added difficulty, add a resistance band to this exercise. This exercise works the gluteus medius and will strengthen your inner and outer thigh, core, and lower back. Remain on the ground but roll onto your side. Prop yourself up by putting your elbow directly under your shoulder. This will stabilize your pelvis. Put your legs on top of each other so your knees and heels are touching. While in this position, raise your upper knee but keep your feet touching. Squeeze your glutes and thighs while performing this motion. Return to the starting position and repeat.

Stay Strong

Beginning your fitness journey can be tough and scary. Trust me, I understand. I struggled with my fitness for years before I figured out how to make it fun for me. You can read more about that on my other blog post here. Remember to take one exercise and workout at a time. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither is a habit. I know you can do it though! If you’re new to working out, start with 2 workouts a week and work your way up. If you’re not new, perform these workouts 3x a week. Remember, stay positive. Stay consistent. Give yourself grace and not be so hard on yourself. I’m here to help you out in any way. Enjoy these Throw Pink workouts!

While in college, I played for Anderson University’s golf team. After college, I started playing disc golf. I have played disc golf for 3 years and love learning more each time I go out.

I have been in the fitness field for 5 years and I love helping people on their journey. I have started my own personal training business where I go into client’s homes and train them online as well. Also, I teach kids how to play golf while learning life skills with The First Tee of Greater Charlotte. I love helping people get stronger every day and find that confidence within themself.

Lessons from College

While studying Kinesiology in college, I learned so much about how the body moves. Although I was a college athlete, I wish I had taken my fitness more seriously in college as I am doing now.

For exercise in college, I would run 3 miles twice a week and weight lift once a week. However, I wasn’t very consistent with my fitness throughout my entire college career.

Like most college students, unhealthy, sugar-filled snacks were what got me through the late nights. I would eat A LOT of candy, drink A LOT of soda, and eat way too much processed food in college.

Now that I’m out of college, I have learned more about how to fuel my body properly. Not only do I know more about nutrition now, but I’m also more aware of the foods and drinks I put into my body. Life is a balance, just like health and nutrition.

Always remember, working out is a gift. I did not realize that until I graduated college and had some life events come up. To name a few, I had multiple mouth surgeries and was in a bad car wreck.

Both events happened within months of each other and they kept me from working out for about half of a year. Luckily, I was able to recover, but it made me realize how many people may never recover or be able to work out. Once I fully recovered, I decided I was not going to take my ability to exercise for granted ever again.

So, the next time you don’t want to move or workout, just think it could get taken away in a blink of an eye. It’s a privilege to workout/exercise. It’s a blessing to have the ability for your body to move… The only thing holding you back is yourself.

It’s Never Too Late

Everyone has excuses. There are going to be days where you do not feel like working out or you don’t want to work out. Just know that you will be so happy and feel so good after exercising.

Make working out a habit (keep in mind – habits take about 2 months). Don’t be too hard on yourself if daily life happenings get in the way of your schedule to exercise.

Find movements that you enjoy doing. It can be anything from walking, disc golf, weightlifting, running, yoga, karate, cycling, Zumba, or hiking. Whatever it is, make YOU a priority and stop putting yourself second.

By exercising and living a healthy lifestyle, you are investing in yourself so you can pour your extra energy and care into others. By bettering yourself, you can help better others around you as well. My goal is to help as many people as possible see and transform into the best versions of themselves through health and fitness!

Right now, Throw Pink and I are working on making another 4-week exercise plan to follow up the amazing plan from Sara Sinclair. Which, if you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend checking it out here.

My 4-week workout plan will be available on www.throwpink.com/news in February! I’ll be there to walk you through every exercise with videos and written notes. It’s never too late to start your fitness journey! You can also find more health tips and tricks on my Instagram: @trainersarahwoz.
