Despite the less than ideal weather conditions, ladies from all over the states came out to the Throw Pink Women’s Disc Golf Clinic at the USDGC in Rock Hill, SC. The 7th annual ladies clinic on Oct. 11 had 44 ladies come out to enjoy disc golf. There was a range of skill levels from beginner to advanced that participated in the Throw Pink Ladies Clinic, which began with workshops with the pros. It was followed by a fun 12-hole round on special Throw Pink disc golf baskets. Throw Pink is a non-profit organization that supports women’s health initiatives through disc golf events nationwide. Our goal is to change the face of women’s health. “This weekend was basically the highlight of my year,” said Jo-El Sidbury, clinic attendee and member of Wilmington, NC disc golf group, the Port City Disc Chicks. “I added discs to my bag that are within my current capabilities. Learned some things – like nothing good ever comes from being stiff.”

It can be difficult bringing new women into disc golf, but our clinic helps. The Throw Pink Ladies Clinic creates a safe space for women and girls of all skill levels to learn and improve their disc golf skills.

A number of touring pros were on hand to provide throwing tips. Holly Finley gave long putting tips. Ellen Widboom helped improve women’s approach form. Elaine King, Alyssa Borth, and Callie McMorran worked with ladies on their drive. A great disc golf tip by pro-female Ellen Widboom was when throwing forehand, it’s not so much arm as it is the wrist.

Thank you to all the volunteers, leaders, and players who came out to the clinic to grow disc golf. It’s up to everyone to make disc golf a safe space for women and womxn and you all set a great example.

The #respectHERgame campaign has brought to light that the disc golf community needs to come together to make disc golf a place for everyone. Check out one of our earlier blog posts on how to grow women’s participation in disc golf by pro disc golfer Madison Walker.
